Schroon Lake
Adirondacks, NY
Under a mixed sky, Schroon Lake was pretty agitated with chop. I had climbed Pharoah Mountain, then took the back road to end up here in the little township of Adirondack, where sky and color pulled me and tripod out of the car. How often do the elements come together for a perfect day on the water with a sailing breeze and this panorama? You can't pick your days, but I stand and watch the cat boat strain at it's moorings as if it knows this is the one. It is ready to tack to the north end, closer to the crazy autumn quilt of Mount Severance and the Hoffman Wilderness. Once there, it could be all out for a run south east down the lake with the push of the breeze, before pulling up and making the long journey back to this point. Were I a sailor, it's what I'd do, but that's another missed opportunity.
