Giant Mountain, Adirondacks, NY. I stood in the shadow of clouds, watching the light move and play through the moving atmosphere onto the terrain around me. I needed a breather, having climbed non-stop to the first level point in the trail, where I could look down on the flat, dark mirror of Chapel Pond, far below. The sea of green illuminated in vivid colors when the skies parted enough, and I was lucky to hit some of it when I reached the perch here. Even spring can be monotone without the sun, but hues jump from subtle to glaring in the spotlight. Looking at this shot now, so long after, is melancholy to me; a landscape that wants to reveal itself, but must be content with a little at a time. I stood there, part of the landscape too, in the shadow of clouds.
