Finger Lakes, NY.
On Christmas Day, 2012, I pit-stopped outside of Ithaca, NY, on my way between families. A little snow had gathered on any surface that would hold it, putting the cliffs of the headwall into something like a bas-relief. I retreated from a closer view where the mist shifted intermittently to coat everything in tiny cold droplets, but even here, farther downstream, cold air seemed to pulse from the cataract, turning the ampitheater into a big refrigerator. The hanging valley here creates a 215 ft drop that is actually higher than Niagara Falls. This is a composite of three exposures rendered in HDR (Photomatix Pro 5).
