Twin Creeks Trail, Great Smoky Mountains, Tennessee. The walls define the road, painstakingly built God knows how many years ago. Parts have tumbled, but even without that, it's a rough travel. This was the way to town, or the way to another homestead, depending on your direction. Or, maybe it's just a way, period...a route that it will get you somewhere if you stay between the lines, instead of just walking aimlessley through the forest. It's not the easy way, it is full of stumbles, hazards and pain. There is something sorrowful about it. If you want smooth, take the paved road. For now, I am in no hurry, wandering toward the light streaking through the tress, rather than away from it.
